Family caregivers do essential work every day, and our team at Adult Family Care (AFC) is dedicated to supporting them through this difficult time.
As an essential service, AFC has remained open throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. Working primarily from home by telephone and videoconference, our team has continued helping people receive in-home care by providing training, compensation, and clinical support for family caregivers.
We are also hearing from a growing number of people who want to limit outside contact by providing care for family members. We want everyone to know we are here to help.
One quick example: Mary has been providing care for her grandmother with support from AFC the past two years. She recently reached out to her care team to inquire about enrolling her father. Prior to the pandemic, her father had been receiving in-home services from a vendor. They made the decision to cancel that service when the pandemic began, because they did not want outside people coming into their home. The daughter took over providing personal care for her father and found that the arrangement worked well for them.
Our team has been able to accommodate their request using adaptations we’ve implemented to reduce the risk of exposure during the pandemic. Our assessment and admission processes are currently being conducted remotely, so that we can provide support as quickly and safely as possible. Once enrolled in the program, the family will continue to receive support via telephone and/or videoconference until it is deemed safe for regular monthly in-home visits to resume.
Our motto at AFC is that the best care is at home. The people in our program tend to agree—with 95% of respondents giving us the highest possible rating in our most recent consumer satisfaction survey.

Benefits Adult Family Care is provided at no cost for eligible households. The person receiving care gets a comprehensive safety assessment, and ongoing support from our team of nurses and social workers. The caregiver also receives a tax-free monthly stipend, ongoing training, and two weeks paid time off annually.
Eligibility Adult Family Care serves eligible adults who cannot live alone due to a medical diagnosis. Participants must require daily assistance with at least one of the following: bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring between positions, ambulating, or eating. Participants must also be eligible for one of the following: MassHealth Standard, CommonHealth, Senior Care Options (SCO), OneCare, or PACE.
The caregiver must live with the person receiving care and be able to meet their daily needs. The caregiver cannot be a spouse or legal guardian of the person receiving care.
